Charlotte NC History in the Stonecroft Community

Stonecroft CommunityCharlotte NC History in the Stonecroft Community

As with most areas of Charlotte, Stonecroft has a fascinating history lesson!  To walk throught this beautiful neighborhood today, you would never know that such a luxurious area holds such a little bit of Charlotte history.

In September, 1780, during the Revolutionary War, General Charles Cornwallis rested his troops for the night in, what is now, Charlotte NC luxury real estate, Stonecroft Neighborhood.  This property, seventy-five rolling acres, owned and farmed for generations by Charlotte's Rea family, have become an exclusive residential community.

The acreage, now an elegant community like no other, has an air of warmth and luxury.  Hence the name of one of the most regal streets in Charlotte (in Stonecroft, of course) is Cornwallis Camp Drive.  Read more about Stonecroft at Charlotte's real estate information site (www.iCharlotteRealEstate.com).

Wow Stonecroft looks incredible! I love the looks of these homes. I have always been a big fan of the blending of stone.

Debe, these homes look massive and stately. How special to incorporate American history in one's community. I had no idea Cornwallis was in NC - I think I thought he just came straight off the Atlantic into Yorktown. Stonecroft in South Charlotte must be a very prestigious address.

Hi Lori!  Thank you!  I love tracking history of the development of areas but, it's really fun to track it that far back!  It's amazing what history lies beyond the gorgeous monuments at the entrances!
