Charlotte NC--Myers Park
Myers Park, the crown jewel of the Queen City (Charlotte NC), is nearing her 100th birthday! Shortly after the turn of the century, George Stephens and John Springs Myers initiated a relationship with a developer, John Nolen of Massachusetts. Nolen, a graduate of Harvard University, became famous for his urban planning following his design of 21 cities, 22 new towns and hundreds of small neighborhood projects. How fortunate for the city of Charlotte that these men forged such a productive relationship! The Myers Park community was planned, using 1,200 acres, in 1911. George Stephens directed the development, with Myers Park soon becoming the destination for affluent families in Charlotte. The varied but, traditional architecture surrounded by immaculate landscaping was well-planned and carried out with precise attention to detail.
Today, the Myers Park community remains the destination neighborhood for the affluent and remains one of the most beautiful areas in the city. The massive oak trees line the streets, enveloping passersby and residents in pure luxury, stately homes and gorgeous architectural history. Take a tour of Charlotte's most sought-after street, Queens Road and several of the Queen City's original mansions, including the Duke Mansion.

Hi Debe-That looks like such a relaxing and beautiful spot to enjoy the beauty of nature. Charlotte is most definitely a beautiful place to live. I love getting to see so many places in the U.S. Thank you for sharing this with us. I hope your day was great. Talk to you again soon. :-)
MAN...I sure hope I look so good when I'm 100!! :-) Lovely...absolutely lovely. (LIKE YOU!) GBU, sis!
Debe, This is a very nice localism post. The picture looks so inviting and relaxing. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Pat! That photo was taken at the Duke Mansion in the Myers Park area. The gardens there create such a sanctuary environment, with relaxation a MUST here! Hope you have a wonderful day as well!
Hey Sis! REALLY--me too! And, thanks for the compliment--but, I think I've aged another year the past few weeks!! ;-) GBU2
Hi Don! Thanks so much! Isn't that a relaxing shot? I just love that place!
What a beautiful park, Debe, and interesting history, as well. I suspect you can just imagine the people who have walked or played there before you in the same park...
Thanks Margaret! There is just so much history here and I love finding a new book that has even more little details about this gorgeous city. Knowing what it takes to develop property in 2008 makes me truly appreciate these gentlemen's efforts and appreciate the quality of their work.
